For a first Tekton clear, use melee, reduce his Defence and move around the outside of his body before his next attack catches you. When he returns to the anvil, change jobs: avoid the flying sparks, stay out from under him and prepare to lure him again. An extra anvil visit is recoverable; standing still in front of his next swing is the urgent problem.
This is a normal Chambers of Xeric learner guide for small teams. It explains the moving method and team responsibilities. Tick-perfect flinching, solo speed kills and Challenge Mode damage assumptions belong to separate practice. Tekton is one possible combat room, so check the raid layout before arranging your inventory.
Bring a melee plan, not your entire bank
Tekton is immune to ranged damage and heavily reduces magic damage. A coherent melee setup is the practical starting point. Crush is his weakest melee defence, so a suitable crush weapon is useful; other capable melee weapons can still work. An expensive weapon does not fix standing on the wrong side of his swing.
Check the selected attack style before entering. A weapon with several styles is only using one of them at a time. Keep your melee weapon, defender where applicable, strength equipment, healing and restoration in familiar slots. If you use a two-handed special weapon, return to the intended main weapon and off-hand afterwards.
Have the team assign Defence reduction. A dragon warhammer, elder maul or bandos godsword serves a different job from a damage-only special weapon. You do not personally need to own every option when a teammate already covers the role. Agree who opens, who follows and how much special energy to preserve for the rest of the raid.
Run energy matters because the learner moving method covers distance. Refill at an available energy well before the room and bring a stamina plan for the complete layout. Turn run on, arrange the camera so you can see Tekton’s full body and enter with health available for a missed movement.
Before approaching | Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
Main weapon | Melee weapon and intended style | Ranged cannot substitute for a missing melee setup |
Special role | One opener and an agreed follow-up | Simultaneous first specials can waste the guaranteed-hit opportunity |
Movement | Run on, energy available, clear camera | You must leave the threatened side before the next attack |
Supplies | Boosts, restoration and healing accessible | A panic inventory search can turn one error into several |
Start with one lure and one shared direction
Approaching Tekton wakes him. Let the designated player lure him into usable space away from the anvil, with the rest of the team ready to follow. Do not have several people pull him in different directions while others are already attacking.
Once he reaches a target, he stops and becomes a solid obstacle. His melee attacks cover the area in front of him and to his own right. Those are directions relative to Tekton, not permanent north and east tiles. If the team surrounds him, his changes of facing become harder to predict.
Stay with the agreed team movement instead of scattering to different sides. A caller can make the first attempts much easier: identify the lure, begin the rotation together and call the return to the anvil. Leave enough space around him to move without clicking through his occupied body.
Defence reduction: use the guaranteed opening correctly
The first dragon warhammer or elder maul special to make contact is guaranteed to land a damaging successful hit. This is an opening benefit for the encounter, not a promise that every player’s first special will hit. If several arrive on the same tick, only one receives that treatment.
Let the assigned opener make contact, then follow the team’s reduction plan. A bandos godsword can remove additional Defence, especially once percentage reduction has already done its work. Avoid treating a special-attack animation as proof that the intended reduction sequence happened.
Tekton has special fallback reductions even for missed warhammer, maul and godsword specials. More importantly for a longer fight, he no longer resets his Defence simply by returning to the anvil. His stats do regenerate over time, so another cycle is neither a completely fresh boss nor a permanently zero-Defence target.
After using the special, resume controlled melee attacks and movement. A learner gains more from landing the next several normal attacks safely than from staring at the special bar while standing in the threatened area.
The moving method: attack, move and read his facing
The common learner method moves anticlockwise around Tekton. Follow the leader’s outside route, take an attack when your weapon is ready and keep moving out of the side he is about to hit. Do not interpret “run around” as repeatedly clicking the far side of his model; that can produce a blocked or unexpected path.
Tekton’s attacks are fast: his ordinary attack interval is three game ticks. That interval is not the same as your weapon’s attack speed. A slower weapon does not grant a longer safe pause in front of him, and repeatedly clicking attack does not make your next hit arrive sooner.
Use Protect from Melee as protection against an error, while continuing to avoid the swing. If you lose the route, prioritise a clear movement tile and healing before trying to recover every missed attack. Communicate if you have run out of energy rather than silently switching to a stationary tanking attempt.
Flinching is another method that baits an attack and moves out before it connects. It can conserve energy, but depends on timing and can be deceptive when animations are skipped. Learn it deliberately after you can recognise the basic facing and anvil cycle; it is not an automatic rescue after a misclick.
Anvil phase: sparks are a separate movement task
After fighting for a while, or when he cannot find a player in melee range during a scan, Tekton returns to repair himself. Do not remain underneath his moving body: the return can inflict rapid stomp damage. Continue attacking only when your path and position remain clear.
At the anvil, sparks target every player. Their impact covers a three-by-three area, so a tiny one-tile correction may leave you inside the same explosion. Move at least two tiles away from your targeted position when the sparks fly, then check that you have not entered a teammate’s landing area.
Keep the team from stacking all of its spark locations on one narrow escape route. This is also a useful moment to heal, restore or refresh a boost after moving. Finish the necessary inventory action before Tekton walks out again.
He briefly emerges enraged, with stronger melee damage and defensive bonuses. Keep using the same careful movement rather than assuming the repaired boss is harmless while you finish drinking. Repeat the lure and damage cycle until he falls.
Recurring mistake | Likely cause | Next attempt |
|---|---|---|
Several people take unexpected swings | Team attacks from different sides | Use one lure and a shared moving direction |
Tekton returns early | No target available in melee range | Keep the lure and route coordinated |
Damage while he walks to the anvil | Standing under his moving body | Move outside his footprint |
Spark damage despite moving | Still inside the three-by-three impact or another player’s target | Make a clear two-tile move and watch nearby landings |
Damage remains poor | Wrong style, drained stats or missing reduction | Check the setup before buying another weapon |
Finish the room and assess the next attempt
Collect and distribute the raid potions after the kill, including the useful overload supplies. Check health and Prayer before moving into the next room. The team’s supply plan should use the actual drops rather than assume one person has already picked up enough for everybody.
CoX deaths are safe for regular Hardcore Ironmen, but Hardcore Group Ironmen lose a group life. Death also harms raid points and drops raid-specific supplies, so “safe” is not the same as free progress. Review whether your first avoidable hit came from facing, energy, a return stomp or sparks; correct that cause before adding a faster method.
