For a learner Mystics room, use a coherent ranged setup, Protect from Magic and a target order that avoids fighting the whole room at once. These enemies can still hurt through protection, and walking close can draw melee attacks. A long-range weapon does not put you beyond their magic reach automatically.

This guide covers Skeletal Mystics in normal Chambers of Xeric. It explains the Salve option, controlled engagement, pathing and the portals that appear after the clear. It does not promise that one universal corner completely safespots every layout.

Bring a complete damage setup and enough recovery

Ranged is a practical default because it lets you engage without deliberately standing in melee range. Use your suitable bow or crossbow with its ammunition, charges and supporting armour. A premium weapon with the wrong ammo or a half-finished switch can perform worse than a simpler setup you maintain correctly.

Skeletal Mystics are undead. A Salve amulet (ei) can boost ranged and magic against them; the enhanced and imbued version matters for these styles. Do not bring an ordinary unimbued Salve and assume every effect of the (ei) version is present.

The amulet is an option within the full raid inventory. If adding it displaces recovery you need to survive repeated mistakes, assess the complete tradeoff. Equip it for the room and return to the relevant necklace afterwards rather than unknowingly use the undead-specific effect as a universal raid bonus.

Magic can be viable with an appropriate setup, but do not substitute an incomplete magic switch solely because another player uses a powerful staff. Compare the whole setup and the current target rather than treat a single item name as a guaranteed upgrade.

Check

Practical reason

Protect from Magic

Reduces the ordinary magic threat without granting total immunity

Salve amulet version

Enhanced/imbued effects are not identical to the basic necklace

Weapon range

Determines whether an attack click changes your position

Restoration

Vulnerability and brews can leave you fighting with drained stats

Target order

Fewer simultaneously active enemies means fewer overlapping attacks

Remaining supplies

A successful kill must still leave a workable raid continuation

Pull one target instead of scattering damage

Identify a nearby Mystic that the team can attack from a controlled position. Use the same target when possible, then move onto the next. Spreading attacks across distant enemies can engage several before any one is removed.

Do not rush through the middle of the chamber because an enemy is technically visible on the far side. Check how the path runs around obstacles and whether a shorter-range attack will pull you forward. The route taken by the character matters as much as the original click location.

In a team, let the caller identify the target and say if a second enemy has engaged. Another player can be taking repeated magic attacks even when your own target appears quiet. Use a clear enemy name or position call instead of assume everybody has selected the same model.

After each kill, briefly check health, Prayer and the next position. A low-health sprint into the next group can waste the benefit of the controlled first pull. Heal while the pressure is reduced rather than wait until several projectiles are already incoming.

Understand what the protection prayer changes

Mystics attack with magic, including a damaging Vulnerability effect, and can use melee. Their behaviour responds to your overhead and whether they can reach you. Protect from Magic reduces their magical threat; it does not mean every incoming hit becomes zero.

If a Mystic can reach a player praying against magic, it can try to melee. Standing close may therefore replace one problem with another. Keep the intended distance and react to actual contact rather than blindly follow a ranged-damage script while the enemy stands beside you.

They have a long magic attack range. Do not interpret the absence of an immediate hit as proof that you are beyond reach. Obstructions and a manipulated melee path can reduce attacks in some situations, but this is different from a universal position where every form of damage is impossible.

Watch Prayer points during a longer room. Protection can stop when the bar empties, and a potion buried behind an oversized gear switch may be difficult to use under pressure. Maintain the reserve before it becomes an emergency.

Restore the stats that the fight is using

A damaging Vulnerability attack and your own healing choices can leave the account’s combat state worse than it was on entry. If ranged damage or defensive performance drops unexpectedly, inspect the actual stats instead of immediately change targets or blame the weapon.

Saradomin brews and Xeric’s aid provide healing with offensive stat drain. Use the appropriate restoration and combat boosts for your raid plan. Revitalisation restores stats and Prayer, while an active overload periodically reapplies combat boosts; those are related tools with different timings.

Keep enough health to survive the next incoming hit before trying to optimise damage. At the same time, repeatedly healing without recovering offensive stats can extend the room and consume more supplies overall. A controlled heal-and-restore sequence is more useful than a long panic string of brews.

If you die, do not immediately repeat the same pull with a depleted reserve. Recover the relevant raid supplies, restore the setup and re-enter with a smaller engagement. Death is a sign to reassess how many enemies are attacking, not automatically proof that a more expensive bow is required.

Use the post-clear portals and collect the seeds

After the final Mystic dies, portals appear at points across the room. Use them to traverse the cleared chamber rather than spend unnecessary run energy crossing it again. They can also make it easier to return for a needed dropped supply.

Collect the raid seeds and tell the preparation player what is available. A seed drop supports the next resource room; it is not a replacement for the secondaries and Herblore level needed to make the intended potion tier.

Confirm the room is completely cleared before treating the route as a safe sorting area. An overlooked Mystic behind an obstacle can continue the same pressure while the team believes it is organising for the next encounter.

Re-equip the necklace and gear appropriate for the next room. This checkpoint prevents a room-specific switch, particularly Salve, from quietly remaining equipped through unrelated encounters.

Problem

First adjustment

Several enemies attack at once

Reduce the pull and focus one target

Hits continue through the overhead

Protection reduces damage; retain health and defence

Close hits appear during ranged damage

Move outside melee reach and check pathing

Long room with unexpectedly poor damage

Check drained stats, ammunition, charges and complete switches

Salve seems to do nothing

Check the actual version and whether it is equipped

Run energy wasted after the clear

Use the portals that appear after the final kill

Keep the learner goal measurable

Aim for a repeatable target order, one usable starting position and recovery supplies left afterwards. Compare those with the previous attempt before adding another armour switch. A room completed while repeatedly emptying every potion is a different milestone from a controlled clear.

CoX deaths preserve regular Hardcore Ironman status but consume a Hardcore Group Ironman life. Points and raid supplies still matter. This distinction should stay explicit when choosing how much risk to accept while learning a new pull.

Connect the room to your full raid plan

Use the Chambers of Xeric learner guide for access, raid supplies and the complete first-clear route. The raids preparation guide helps you choose useful account upgrades before adding more switches.
