For a first post-quest Vorkath kill, build the attempt around three responses: leave the high fireball's landing area, kill the approaching spawn with Crumble Undead and keep walking during acid. Learn those before attempting damage during the acid phase. Losing a few attacks is a reasonable trade for surviving the mechanic.

This guide uses a Ranged crossbow learner route. Melee and other Ranged methods use different protection combinations, so their overhead choices cannot be copied into this setup without checking the shield and potion. It covers repeat Vorkath after Dragon Slayer II, whose stats and rewards differ from the quest encounter.

Access and the first-trip objective

Complete Dragon Slayer II to unlock repeat fights. Travel to Ungael through Torfinn at Rellekka and enter the crater. Vorkath starts inactive, letting you check supplies before awakening him. Do not mistake reaching the island for being ready to begin the next attempt immediately.

Around 80 Ranged, useful defensive equipment and enough Hitpoints to recover from ordinary damage make sensible learner targets. These are recommendations, not extra quest requirements. A dragon hunter crossbow is an upgrade route, not a mandatory item for every completion.

Set the first objective to one controlled kill followed by banking. A multi-kill inventory is useful only after you understand your consumption. Bring an emergency teleport and check that it works with the chosen spellbook and supplies.

Match the crossbow, shield and antifire

Part

Learner route

Verify

Weapon

A compatible crossbow; rune crossbow is an accessible starting option.

Actual Ranged requirement and bolt compatibility. Dragon bolts need a suitable stronger crossbow.

Dragonfire shield slot

Anti-dragon shield, or a suitable upgraded dragonfire shield.

A normal defensive shield or defender is not equivalent.

Potion

Super antifire, extended if desired.

Extended describes duration; ordinary extended antifire is not extended super antifire.

Overhead

Protect from Missiles with this crossbow-and-dragonfire-shield route.

Other setups may need Magic protection instead.

Amulet

Salve amulet(ei) if unlocked for the Ranged route.

The unimbued enchanted version does not supply its Ranged bonus.

A super antifire together with a dragonfire-protection shield can fully mitigate Vorkath's ordinary dragonfire damage. Lesser combinations leave some damage. That protection does not stop the high fireball, prevent venom from being inflicted or stop the prayer-disabling effect. Keep those mechanics separate when checking the inventory.

Ruby enchanted bolts can be useful while the boss has substantial health, with diamond enchanted bolts a possible later switch. Learn the basic weapon and mechanic sequence before adding repeated bolt changes. Do not buy dragon bolts for a rune crossbow and discover the incompatibility in the crater.

Use Ranged armour your account can equip and a complete supply budget. Void is one equipment route, not an entry requirement. A stronger weapon with no venom plan, no compatible ammunition or no recovery money is not a complete upgrade.

Salve, venom and the spawn spell

Vorkath is undead. The enchanted, imbued Salve amulet gives a Ranged benefit, while the enchanted version without an imbue is a melee item for this purpose. Salve and a Slayer helmet do not stack their undead/task bonuses. Check the full item name when preparing, rather than assuming every purple amulet provides the same effect.

Bring a venom solution, such as an appropriate anti-venom potion or charged serpentine helm. Antifire protection and venom immunity are different systems. If using treatment that only converts venom to poison, you still need a deliberate repeat-treatment plan; do not assume you have the immunity duration of anti-venom+.

Crumble Undead is on the Standard spellbook at 39 Magic and uses two air runes, two earth runes and one chaos rune per cast. Combination runes can cover the elemental components. Bring enough for multiple spawn phases and verify the rune supply before entering.

A Slayer's staff with Crumble Undead selected for autocast is a useful optional switch. It can also improve the Magic attack bonus for the cast. Your actual casting setup must avoid an extremely negative Magic bonus: at -64 or below, the spell fails its accuracy check. Test the equipment plan before relying on one click during the freeze.

Build the inventory around actions

Group the spawn staff beside the supplies you use for the cast. Put the emergency teleport in a fixed location. Bring Ranged boosts, Prayer restoration, antifire, venom treatment and healing, with some combo food if you understand how to use it.

For a short learning trip, prioritise enough food for ordinary mistakes over optional special-attack weapons. A defence-reduction switch can improve a developed method, but it adds equipment and preparation actions. An uncomplicated first kill is a better foundation than a high-damage opening followed by a missed spawn.

Check potion timers between kills. If you pre-pot at a bank, remember that the protection is already counting down during travel. A potion not present in the inventory can still be active, but an empty timer is not rescued by remembering that you drank it earlier.

Read the six-attack cycle

Vorkath uses six ordinary attacks before a special. The first special can be acid or freeze; later specials alternate. After a special, reset the ordinary-attack count. Counting helps you prepare, but the visible mechanic remains the deciding cue if you lose track.

Cue

Immediate response

What it does not mean

High fireball launched upward

Move at least two tiles from the targeted position promptly.

Antifire will not make the landing tile safe.

Prayer-disabling dragonfire

Restore your selected overhead and offensive prayer when appropriate.

A full Prayer bar guarantees prayers are still enabled.

Venomous attack

Maintain or use the venom plan.

Dragonfire damage being blocked prevents the status effect.

Freeze and approaching zombified spawn

Stop attacking Vorkath; use Crumble Undead on the spawn.

The frozen interval is a chance to keep shooting the boss.

Acid pools and rapid fire

Walk continuously on a clear route.

Standing still on a clean tile is safe.

Stay outside melee distance on this crossbow route. Keep the boss, your character and the nearby floor visible. If you zoom so far in that you cannot see the next movement tile, fix the camera before buying another equipment upgrade.

High fireball: move far enough

The high fireball targets the position occupied when it was launched. Move promptly to a clear tile at least two tiles away. Being next to the impact can still deal substantial splash damage, so a one-tile adjustment is not the same response.

Decide how you will control run before the attempt. Some learners keep run available during ordinary attacks and turn it off for acid. Others leave it off and use a deliberate run override when needed. Pick one routine and practise the input; switching habits halfway through a panic makes the next click harder to predict.

Healing does not cancel the need to move. If you see the wind-up while looking at the inventory, relocate first when possible, then repair health after the landing. A large food reserve cannot repeatedly absorb the direct hit.

Freeze: click the spawn, not Vorkath

When frozen, Vorkath launches the zombified spawn. Select Crumble Undead and target that approaching creature. If using the prepared autocast staff, equip it, check the intended spell and attack the spawn. Return to the crossbow after the spawn is defeated.

Vorkath is protected during this mechanic. Continuing to attack him wastes the response window. Likewise, clicking the ground because you want to move does not remove the freeze. Keep attention on the approaching target rather than searching through unrelated inventory items.

White freezing projectile that signals Vorkath’s zombified-spawn phase

If the cast fails, review spellbook, Magic level, runes and actual Magic attack bonus. A powered weapon's built-in spell is not Crumble Undead. Repair the cause before the next attempt instead of assuming that the same inventory will work if clicked faster.

Acid: find a clear lane and keep walking

Green projectile used by Vorkath during the acid special attack

When acid spreads, turn run off and identify a continuous clear stretch. Walk along it without stopping, reverse before reaching its end and keep moving until the rapid fire finishes. Leave auto-retaliate off so an incoming hit does not pull you into an attack animation.

Choose short, controlled destinations within the clean lane. Clicking far away can route across acid or bring you to the destination before you are ready to reverse. A clear tile is only a useful destination while you continue the walking sequence; remaining still allows the rapid attacks to catch you.

Do not add attacks during acid for the first kill. Woox walking is an advanced damage method that depends on timing, movement and weapon speed. It is not required to complete the fight. Once ordinary acid movement is reliable, you can decide whether learning that separate technique serves your goal.

If acid blocks your preferred lane, read the actual floor and use another clear route. Repeating a memorised line without checking the pools defeats the purpose of the method. Restore attention to movement before trying to correct every inventory issue at once.

Your first complete attempt

  1. At the inactive boss, confirm health, Prayer, bolts, active protections and Crumble Undead supplies.

  2. Awaken Vorkath and maintain the crossbow route's overhead while watching each ordinary attack.

  3. Move promptly for a high fireball and re-enable prayers after they are disabled.

  4. Read the first special and perform either the spawn cast or continuous acid walk.

  5. Resume ordinary attacks, expecting the opposite special after the next six.

  6. After the kill, check that the encounter has ended, collect rewards and bank for the first-trip review.

If the attempt runs out of supplies, teleport deliberately. Review whether health was lost to ordinary damage, a failed spawn or the acid phase. Those problems need different changes. More Ranged damage may shorten the fight, but it does not teach the movement input.

Head, recovery and account differences

Vorkath's head has a normal drop chance and is guaranteed on the 50th kill. That guarantee applies to the head, not the pet or visages. It gives a useful milestone for the Ava's assembler project, while other rare rewards should remain optional outcomes rather than a fixed profit schedule.

Torfinn retrieves lost equipment for 100,000 coins after death. Items left in that service are lost if you suffer another unsafe death before reclaiming them. Keep the recovery cost available and collect the items before returning to dangerous content. A second death can turn a manageable learning cost into a much larger loss.

HCIM and HCGIM players must treat the encounter as dangerous. UIMs must also plan retrieval-service storage and carried inventory under their own rules. Ironmen should choose a sustainable bolt, potion and rune supply before projecting a long grind; GIM members still complete the solo fight individually.

Track complete trips, including banking, travel, supplies and unsuccessful attempts, before estimating returns. Continue with the Ranged preparation guide or the upgrade comparison when you know which part of the method needs improvement.
