To kill all three Dagannoth Kings, use magic on Rex, ranged on Prime and melee on Supreme. Enter with Protect from Magic, minimise how long multiple Kings attack you and build a rotation around the actual respawns. A Rex-only safespot does not automatically make the full trio safe.
This guide expands the separate Dagannoth Rex route and safespot guide into a three-King learner plan. It covers solo tribrid preparation and team role division, rather than require a maximum-damage opening that leaves every boss active.
Pack for the route as well as the arena
Reach Waterbirth Island and follow the dungeon route to the deepest lair. The usual solo approach needs a pet rock and rune thrownaxe for the doors; the 85 Agility shortcut bypasses those requirements and can be reached with an appropriate boost. Plan the actual route you can use before removing either item.
Bring all three damage styles with compatible ammunition, charges and runes. Use a small number of supporting switches and keep ranged defence and Prayer sustain useful across them. Spinolyps in the surrounding water continue to pressure you even while a King is safely positioned.
Take poison protection, food, Prayer restoration, boosts, enough run energy for the approach and an emergency teleport. An antidote is a separate job from overhead protection. Bring supplies for the long return journey rather than use every slot for a marginal damage upgrade.
No Slayer assignment is required to fight the Kings. A dagannoth task can improve the setup, while the elite Fremennik Diary makes their bone drops noted. Neither the task nor the diary replaces learning the entry and rotation.
King | Incoming style | Your damage style |
|---|---|---|
Dagannoth Rex | Melee | Magic; lure to a verified edge safespot |
Dagannoth Prime | Magic | Ranged from the northern side |
Dagannoth Supreme | Ranged | Melee with other threats controlled |
Spinolyps | Poison and small attacks/drains | Maintain poison treatment and recovery supplies |
Agree solo or team roles before going down
For a solo tribrid, the goal is enough damage in each style to finish one King before overlapping spawns become unmanageable. A powerful melee setup does not solve a weak Prime kill if ranged takes so long that Supreme returns and attacks throughout it.
A team can divide responsibilities, for example one person controlling Rex while another handles Prime and Supreme. State who owns each target and what happens if somebody needs to bank. Otherwise a player can leave believing the room is stable while a teammate suddenly receives another King.
Ordinary Ironman kill-credit restrictions differ from shared-loot group bosses. Plan solo kills or eligible group activity for the account rather than assume a public team automatically gives every Ironman personal drops. Hardcore deaths remain unsafe.
Peek from the safe area near the ladder to check occupancy. A crowded world can disrupt the intended lure and respawn plan. Avoid dropping into a room simply because you reached the end of a long route and do not want to look for another world.
Enter with Prime protected and control the opening
Activate Protect from Magic before descending. Prime is the priority threat if it notices you, and a simultaneous Supreme hit makes an already dangerous entry worse. Watch which Kings actually target you before committing to the first damage sequence.
A controlled learner opening is to reach the eastern side without aggression, lure Rex with magic and use a known edge safespot. If the entry attracts several Kings, use the ladder to reset the attempt or stabilise with Magic protection and healing rather than run through the centre blindly.
Do not interpret a successful escape from one attack as proof the next drop is safe. Reassess the positions on each descent. The eastern lure is a setup process, not an instruction to ignore Prime while running around its attack range.
An experienced player may open on Supreme and tank or manage the others. That is faster with strong gear and correct off-ticking, but it is a separate choice from the safer Rex-first learner rotation.
Build the Rex → Prime → Supreme cycle
Once Rex is controlled at the eastern edge, kill it with magic while staying clear of the other Kings’ aggression. Check health, poison and Prayer during this quieter section rather than wait until the next exposed melee kill.
Move north for Prime and use ranged from a position that does not also pull Supreme or the returning Rex. Keep Protect from Magic active whenever Prime is attacking. Weapon range matters: a short-range attack can pull you forward from the position you intended to hold.
After Prime dies, kill Supreme with melee while staying as far west as practical from Rex’s new spawn. Use the appropriate protection if Supreme is the only active attacker, but return to Magic immediately if Prime becomes involved.
Return to the eastern wall and control Rex again. Treat this as a loop adjusted to your real kill times. If a spawn interrupts the plan, manage that King rather than continue the rotation as though the room were empty.
What to do when the rotation overlaps
If Prime and Supreme attack together, prioritise Protect from Magic while resolving the other damage with health and positioning. Do not change to Missiles merely because Supreme is your current target and forget Prime’s much stronger magic pressure.
If Rex joins, lure or freeze it away from your working position when the setup supports that action. Avoid walking directly into another King while trying to create the safespot. A brief defensive pause or ladder reset can be better than forcing the next kill from a bad position.
Off-ticking multiple attackers allows advanced players to protect against different hits in sequence. It requires correct timing and awareness of their actual cycles; this article does not claim that changing prayer rapidly at random achieves it.
Repeated overlaps can indicate an imbalanced setup, slow switches or looting at the wrong time. Improve the weakest part of the rotation before removing more supplies for extra equipment.
Failure pattern | First check |
|---|---|
Heavy damage immediately on entry | Was Magic protection on, and which Kings noticed you? |
Pulled out of position while ranging | Weapon range and Prime’s current tile |
Supreme kill repeatedly overlaps Rex | Melee kill time and western positioning |
Food drains while Rex is trapped | Poison status and Spinolyp pressure |
Long trip ends with no way out | Keep the emergency teleport and sufficient charges available |
Loot during a safe window and plan the next cycle
Check the other Kings before running for drops. Prime can be attacked from range while its loot lies closer to another threat. Leaving a useful position just to collect ordinary supplies can restart the overlap you spent the opening controlling.
The rings and dragon axe are potential goals; noted bones with the elite diary improve inventory management. Compare trip sustainability over complete visits including travel, rather than assume one quick kill predicts an hourly rate.
When supplies are low, leave deliberately and prepare the return kit. Normal gravestone recovery applies, and a safe-looking Rex tile does not protect Hardcore status from other Kings, poison or a failed entry. Aim for a repeatable trio rotation before extending the trip or adding a faster opening.
Choose the next account upgrade
Use the OSRS PvM progression guide to connect this encounter to your next unlock. Improve the repeated mechanical error first, then choose equipment that solves a specific damage, range or sustain problem.
