To train Prayer with blessed bone shards, you need 30 Prayer, access to Varlamore, blessed bone shards and blessed wine. Offer the shards at the libation bowl at the Teomat, refill its wine supply and restore Prayer at the nearby Shrine of Ralos when needed. The shards are untradeable and already stackable: you cannot buy or note them.
Check your supplies before travelling
Item or requirement | Purpose |
|---|---|
30 Prayer | Required to make sacrifices at the bowl. |
Varlamore access | Complete Children of the Sun and plan your route to the Teomat. |
Blessed bone shards | The stackable, untradeable resource consumed for XP. |
Jugs of wine or sunfire wine | Bless them at the exposed altar before filling the bowl. |
Chisel, eligible bones and coins | Needed if you are preparing shards from noted bones, rather than using a banked shard stack. |
Some bones have additional restrictions; for example, blessing superior dragon bones requires 70 Prayer.
How to prepare shards from bones
Take a chisel, eligible noted bones and coins to Virilis at the Teomat. He charges 10 coins per bone to unnote them.
Bless the unnoted bones at the exposed altar.
Use the chisel to break the blessed bones into shards. The number of shards depends on the bone; not every type of remains can be blessed.
Repeat until you have the stack you intend to sacrifice. Bank other supplies before starting the wine trips.
You can also build a shard stack through activities such as calcified-rock mining and Hunters' Rumours. Collection time still counts toward the total time spent earning Prayer XP; a banked stack is not evidence of a sustainable gathering-and-offering rate.
Wine determines XP per shard
Wine used | XP per shard | XP from 400 shards |
|---|---|---|
Blessed wine | 5 | 2,000 |
Blessed sunfire wine | 6 | 2,400 |
One jug supports 400 shards. Each sacrifice can use up to 100 shards and drains two Prayer points. A full 400-shard allowance therefore takes four full actions and eight Prayer points. These are conversion figures, not XP-per-hour promises.
To prepare sunfire wine, add two sunfire splinters to a jug of wine before blessing it at the exposed altar. Blessed wine cannot be banked, so bless what you are about to use. Compare the extra splinter cost with the additional XP instead of assuming the higher-XP wine is always the cheapest option.
Your first offering trip
Withdraw the shard stack and your planned wine supply.
Travel to the Teomat, bless the wine and fill the libation bowl.
Offer shards. Automatic sacrifices are slower than repeatedly clicking manually; choose the attention level you can maintain.
When Prayer is too low to continue, restore it at the Shrine of Ralos in the southern building and return.
Refill the bowl as its wine allowance is used. When your wine is exhausted, bank and repeat.
Budget and time: count the whole process
For a main buying bones, include bones, wine, sunfire splinters if used, unnoting fees and transport. For an Ironman, include the time to collect those supplies. The correct comparison is total XP divided by preparation, travelling, Prayer restoration, banking and offering time combined.
As a simple planning example, 4,000 shards need ten jugs if no shards are preserved. They grant 20,000 XP with normal blessed wine or 24,000 with blessed sunfire wine. Zealot's robes can preserve shards, so that example deliberately excludes their effect. It is a supply calculation, not a guaranteed session length.
Common reasons the method stops
Prayer depleted: restore it; clicking the bowl cannot replace Prayer points.
No wine allowance: refill using blessed wine, not ordinary wine.
Wrong expectations about buying shards: buy eligible bones on a main and prepare them; the shards themselves are not tradeable.
Misleading XP rates: offering a pre-made stack can be fast, but preparing that stack is separate work.
This method avoids the Wilderness altar's player-killing risk. That does not make every journey or other Varlamore activity safe for a Hardcore account. Check the route and activity separately.
