Akkha asks you to make two separate decisions: protect against the style he is using, and attack with a style his overhead does not block. Keep that distinction clear before adding fast gear switches. During memory, follow the displayed safe-quadrant order; during the final stand, use melee and choose a clear route around the white orbs.
This guide covers the Path of Het and Akkha’s base encounter for learner ToA runs. It explains the modifiers separately. Butterfly movement and combined-special staircase methods are advanced projects, not requirements for a first low-level clear. A smaller switch you can control is more useful than a large inventory you cannot manage while moving.
Prepare the styles you will actually use
Complete Beneath Cursed Sands for raid access and bring a coherent melee, ranged and magic setup for the complete raid. Against Akkha, choose a useful unblocked style according to your available equipment. The final stand requires melee regardless of which style did most of the earlier damage.
A charged powered staff, a suitable ranged weapon with ammunition and a stab-capable melee weapon are practical directions. Equip each intended set before starting and check for negative accuracy pieces left on during a magic switch. A premium staff does not replace reading the overhead or reaching the correct memory quadrant.
Place your weapons and essential armour together in predictable slots. Keep healing, restoration and any raid supplies accessible without repeatedly opening the bag during an emergency. Check which offensive prayers you have genuinely unlocked; scrolls, quest requirements and Prayer levels are separate account projects.
Akkha’s ordinary attacks still deal chip damage through correct protection. Enter healthy and keep enough Prayer to respond to the next style. Do not interpret a correct overhead as permission to stop looking at health or to tank a charged quadrant.
Path of Het: finish the beam before mining
The puzzle uses mirrors to send a light beam to the shielded statue. Pick up, place, rotate or push the movable mirrors to join a route through the fixed ones. Break worn barriers when the beam needs that passage; an intact solid barrier is not solved by rotating a mirror behind it.
Pickaxes are available from the statues, and you can store a better one for future raids. A better tool and the relevant Mining level can improve the seal process, but the first job is a valid beam. Do not assume that owning a pickaxe in your bank is equivalent to having the right tool available here.
In teams, clean dirty mirrors when the route stops reflecting. Darkness orbs and the beam can damage players, so work around their current positions rather than standing on the intended line while deciding the next rotation. If the team wipes, the puzzle can reset.
Once the shield drops, mine the seal during its vulnerability window. Repeat the beam-and-mine cycle if necessary. A one-cycle solve is an efficiency target with level, tool and timing conditions; it is not a requirement for progressing to Akkha. Restore resources before leaving the room.
Style changes: overhead first, damage choice second
What Akkha is doing | Your protection | Your damage decision |
|---|---|---|
Using melee and protecting melee | Protect from Melee | Use a suitable ranged or magic option |
Using ranged and protecting ranged | Protect from Missiles | Use a suitable unblocked magic or melee option |
Using magic and protecting magic | Protect from Magic | Use a suitable unblocked ranged or melee option |
Final stand with both ranged and magic protection | Follow the final-orb survival plan | Use melee on the active target |
Unlike Zebak, Akkha’s ranged and magic damage is determined when the projectile appears. Have the right protection selected for his current form instead of waiting until a projectile reaches you. Watch for a style change while moving or healing, then correct the prayer before trying to restore lost damage.
In groups, the first entrant starts as the target, but mechanics can change aggression. His melee can also endanger nearby players. Agree a tank and positioning plan where needed; do not chase his model through teammates while assuming that another player receives every attack.
Shadows: clear one quadrant and keep it usable
At the health thresholds, Akkha becomes invulnerable and shadows appear around the room. Focus one shadow with the team, clear that section and bring the fight into the cleared area. Splitting damage across every shadow can leave no safe section ready when the charge finishes.
Watch the shadow’s charge and the hourglasses. A fully charged shadow attacks its quadrant. When the shadows return at a later threshold, their health is restored, so unfinished damage on a different shadow is not a permanent head start.
Quadrant attacks have different side effects, including stat drain, disabled protection, burning or slower attacks. After a mistake, check what changed rather than restoring only Hitpoints. If your overhead is off or damage feels unexpectedly weak, the previous mechanic may explain it.
Memory Blast: read the lights, then move in order
When Akkha disappears and the floor symbols flash, remember their order. Those symbols show the safe quadrants for the successive blasts. Move into the first indicated section, then the next as the sequence progresses. Do not run the route while the game is still showing the pattern and assume you have solved it.
Keep the camera orientation stable so the fire, shadow, lightning and ice symbols remain easy to identify. Use the centre as a reference, but watch the actual safe section and developing blast. A screenshot teaches the relationship; its sequence is not the sequence for your attempt.
Feeling Special? halves the normal movement window between blasts from four ticks to two. Learn and practise that timing deliberately rather than enabling it mid-session because another preset calls it easy. Path levels can also add another step to remember.
Trailing orbs and group detonation
A trail message means movement can leave dangerous orbs behind you. If no competing mechanic requires travel, standing still avoids creating a long trail. If you must move, choose a clear route and avoid retracing it through the newly created orbs.
Feeling Special? can add an orb ahead of you, while Double Trouble combines specials. The base instruction to stand still is not a complete answer to every combined setting. Leave the combined version off until you understand both tasks and their shared movement.
Detonation is a group mechanic. Do not stand in another player’s blast line; use the formation the team agreed before entry. Feeling Special? can change the shape, so a position learned for the normal pattern needs another check. An unannounced last-second stack is not a reliable substitute for a shared plan.
Final stand: reach the target without chasing through orbs
When Akkha’s main health is exhausted, he restores a portion for the final stand and blocks ranged and magic. Equip melee. The active target changes position after a number of successful hits, so a weapon with several hitsplats can advance that change quickly.
Read the arrows beneath the white unstable orbs. They travel in fixed directions. Pick a clear short route to the active target, attack when there is space and reassess when it moves. Clicking directly through a dense group of orbs can cost more health than the damage window is worth.
At lower raid levels, Protect from Magic can reduce orb damage, but it does not make contact safe. Its practical benefit changes at higher levels because damage is capped. For learning, avoidance and enough health for the next mistake remain the primary plan, rather than relying on one overhead as immunity.
If repeated panic movement is the blocker, stop trying to maximise every attack. Heal on a clear tile, identify one open passage and resume. Keep restoration available if Deadly Prayers is enabled; taking several orb hits can also remove the Prayer reserve you intended to use for recovery.
Modifier or problem | What changes |
|---|---|
Stay Vigilant | More frequent specials and style changes tied to them |
Keep Back | An extra close-range melee threat during ranged/magic forms |
Feeling Special? | Faster memory and additional orb placement responsibilities |
Double Trouble | Two specials can overlap; a separate movement plan is needed |
Frequent shadow failures | Focus one shadow earlier and check the charged quadrant |
All ToA deaths risk Hardcore status, including a level-0 lesson. Practise with the account’s actual death and attempt rules in mind. Reaching the final stand is progress, but the usable milestone is a clear with understood movement and supplies left for the next path.
After the encounter: choose one improvement
Review the first recurring mistake before changing equipment or adding invocations. Record whether the problem was a missed cue, an unusable switch, a supply shortage or a route you had not learned. Repeating the same setup while correcting one cause makes the next attempt easier to assess.
For access, the full raid and Helpful Spirit supplies, use the ToA first-clear guide. For difficulty progression, use the first-150 invocation guide and check the actual enabled settings before entering.
