Build your first 150 Tombs of Amascut setup by adding mechanics you understand, one at a time. A raid level is not a universal difficulty score: two presets worth 150 can pressure completely different skills. Keep your first clear at level 0, then use repeated completions to decide what to add next.
This OSRS ToA invocations guide gives a checked solo example with cumulative checkpoints at 50, 100 and 150. It explains the costs of each choice. It is one learning route, not a claim that every account should use the same preset or that any modifier is free for every player.
Before adding points, make the level-0 run repeatable
Know the four path puzzles, Zebak’s projectile prayers, Kephri’s movement, Akkha’s switches, Ba-Ba’s boulders and all three Wardens phases. Have enough supplies for the opening paths, understand the Helpful Spirit bundles and keep a predictable inventory.
If a normal mechanic still causes repeated deaths, practise it at the current level before adding another variable. Raising raid level increases enemy pressure as well as enabling the named effects. A setup that barely completes level 0 may need stronger damage, better supply use or cleaner execution before the next checkpoint.
Entry is raid level 0–149, Normal is 150–299 and Expert starts at 300. Reaching 150 does not automatically grant loot or a guaranteed unique; the immediate goal is a completion you can repeat.
How to use the example
Keep each earlier stage enabled when moving to the next. The first table totals 50; the second adds 50 to reach 100; the last adds 50 to reach 150. You do not need to jump a full stage in one session. Add a single modifier, complete a run and review what changed before continuing.
This example is designed for solo play. Blowing Mud has no additional effect when solo, but changes who is targeted in a group. Do not share the preset with a team while assuming every selected effect behaves identically.
First checkpoint: learn the boss modifiers at 50
Add | Points | What to practise |
|---|---|---|
Not Just a Head | 15 | Zebak adds blood magic and chasing blood clouds; recognise these alongside ordinary projectiles. |
Arterial Spray | 10 | Blood magic gains range and healing; keep the cloud route clear. |
Blood Thinners | 5 | Three blood clouds replace one; track the group of clouds instead of one target. |
Gotta Have Faith | 10 | Opened sarcophagi at Ba-Ba become more dangerous as Prayer falls; control baboons and maintain Prayer. |
Jungle Japes | 5 | Dead baboons leave banana peels; route around their stun tiles. |
Lively Larvae | 5 | Kephri launches more dark eggs; clear them or leave room for the resulting scarabs. |
Stage total: 50. Arterial Spray and Blood Thinners require Not Just a Head. Enable the parent modifier first and check the final interface list rather than counting an option that the game has not actually enabled.
At Zebak, maintain the ordinary Magic/Ranged prayer responses while watching the extra blood mechanic. Clouds can expire as they travel, so deliberate distance is useful; running in a tight circle through them defeats that purpose. In teams, blood damage also makes overlapping players a concern.
The wave screenshot shows the ordinary spacing problem that remains underneath these modifiers. Adding blood effects does not remove the need to find the next wave gap or solve the roar with a clean tile behind a rock. When two mechanics overlap, preserve the safe route and prayer first.
Second checkpoint: positioning and early Wardens changes at 100
Add to the first stage | Points | What changes |
|---|---|---|
Mind the Gap! | 10 | Ba-Ba’s knockback can put you in a fatal pit; use the safe side positions before the threshold. |
Shaking Things Up | 10 | Ba-Ba’s shockwave area grows; move fully out of the marked danger. |
Blowing Mud | 10 | No extra effect in solo; in teams two players are targeted by Kephri’s dung strike. |
Overclocked | 10 | Wardens phase-three slams speed up; shorten the movement decision. |
Ancient Haste | 10 | Phase-one Wardens charge faster; the obelisk and orb plan needs less hesitation. |
Add 50, cumulative total 100. Mind the Gap has a particularly severe failure consequence. Practise the knockback position at a lower level and do not select it merely because ten points look small. Before the health threshold, move to a safe side position rather than standing in the central pit line.
Overclocked is a timing change to a pattern you should already know. During a practice run, identify whether you are moving after seeing the slam cue or only after damage appears. Keep attacks secondary until each safe position is reached reliably.
Ancient Haste can increase the pressure of charged attacks before the obelisk dies. Check health before blocking energy and avoid taking unnecessary damage while waiting to begin attacking. Do not compensate for slow damage by absorbing a longer energy stream.
Third checkpoint: supplies and final timing at 150
Add to the first two stages | Points | Required adjustment |
|---|---|---|
Try Again | 5 | The raid now has ten attempts instead of unlimited retries; know the wipe and exit rules. |
On a Diet | 15 | Food cannot be eaten; use a planned potion-based healing layout. |
Acceleration | 10 | Phase-two Warden attacks and obelisk charges are faster. |
Penetration | 10 | Obelisk hits deal more damage and disable overheads; reapply the needed prayer if struck. |
Overclocked 2 | 10 | Final-phase slams become faster again; it requires Overclocked. |
Add 50, cumulative total 150. The full example uses sixteen enabled modifiers, including both Overclocked options. Read the displayed raid level before entering. If it shows another number, compare the enabled names and prerequisites rather than adding unrelated points until the total looks right.
This stage deliberately changes both supplies and timing. Train them separately first: test On a Diet while leaving the raid below 150, then practise the Warden changes without adding every other new choice at once. A checkpoint is a target, not a requirement to combine five unfamiliar effects immediately.
Rebuild the inventory for On a Diet
Sharks, karambwans and other ordinary food no longer solve your healing problem. Guthix rest also counts as food here. Bring enough usable potion healing and restoration for the first two paths, then choose Helpful Spirit supplies around the remaining raid.
Nectar and Saradomin brews heal but drain combat stats. Tears and restores repair those stats, while an active smelling-salts boost repeatedly reapplies the offensive boost. Keep track of whether that effect is active after a death or a long room. Do not turn on Dehydration alongside this plan: it removes the healing-potion route that the inventory relies on.
On a Diet also changes the support items offered by the spirit; silk dressings and honey locusts are unavailable. Read each bundle instead of expecting the same contents as the last level-0 run. Keep emergency ambrosia reachable through the supplies bag or in a fixed inventory slot.
Keep the Warden changes readable
During phase 2, red skulls need Magic protection and ordinary skulls need Missiles protection. If an obelisk hit disables the overhead through Penetration, restore it immediately while moving out of the next danger. Faster attacks leave less room for opening several interfaces before responding.
In phase 3, use the opposite side for a side slam and the middle for the double-sided attack. Watch the animation and floor while learning the faster rhythm. Destroy Energy Siphons with melee, then re-establish the next safe position. The example leaves Insanity off, so it does not import that modifier’s additional sequence and end-phase pressure.
If Overclocked 2 repeatedly causes deaths, remove it and practise the earlier timing. There is no benefit in preserving a displayed 150 while making the Warden phase unrecoverable. Another preset can reach the same total later, but should be chosen around a mechanic you can already execute.
What this example intentionally leaves out
Walk the Path and starting path-level modifiers can change both enemy strength and specific boss mechanics. They are not simple replacement points for a missing equipment upgrade. Feeling Special? changes Akkha’s timing, while Upset Stomach changes Zebak’s jug and acid solve. Learn those as separate projects.
Reduced Helpful Spirit bundles, Dehydration and Overly Draining alter resources or special-attack planning. Hardcore Run removes the retry margin. A time limit can also pressure a learner into rushing safe decisions. None is required for this example, and adding one silently changes the plan even if you remove the same number of points elsewhere.
Judge the run by repeatability, not only the level
After each attempt, record the new modifier, deaths, supply shortage and one recurring mistake. Separate a specific missed cue from generally low damage. Better stats or a stronger complete setup can help when supplies end despite clean play; they do not fix standing in a pit or attacking through an unsolved mechanic.
All ToA deaths risk Hardcore status. With Try Again enabled, exhausting the attempt allowance can lead to an item-retrieval fee; retrieve stored items before risking another dangerous death. Do not log out in an unsafe room as an escape method. Ordinary Ironmen can join raid teams under raid loot rules, while Group Ironman prestige and UIM storage need their own checks.
Once the 150 is controlled, repeat it until the next useful change is clear. Use the OSRS PvM progression guide when the next project is an account unlock rather than another modifier. Consistent clears are a better foundation than a higher preset you cannot finish.
