Vet’ion rewards the same clean movement used at Calvar’ion, but adds a much more demanding Wilderness trip: a multicombat arena above normal teleport limits and an exit through the Escape Caves. This guide explains a controlled first kill or small-team attempt, from crush gear and hellhound jobs to the route out.

A group fighting Vetion inside Vetions Rest after the Wilderness boss rework

Choose Vet’ion for the right reason

Vet’ion lives in Vet’ion’s Rest around level 35 Wilderness. Entry requires the medium Wilderness Diary or a specific Vet’ion boss Slayer task. A generic skeleton task does not replace that requirement. Do not confuse this with Calvar’ion’s hard-diary requirement.

The arena is multicombat, so a team of player killers can attack you while the boss remains dangerous. A successful boss dodge does not protect against PvP. If you only want to learn the skeleton mechanics, Calvar’ion provides a smaller singles-plus version; choose Vet’ion when you deliberately want this group encounter or its reward profile.

The shared Wilderness-boss entry fee starts at 50,000 coins and can be deducted from the bank. It covers the related lairs and Escape Caves, with its own reduction and repayment rules. You do not need to carry a large coin stack for ordinary entry.

Standard Ironman accounts can receive loot alongside other players here, subject to contribution rules. That is different from bosses that require an entirely solo Ironman kill. Discuss how your group will handle drops before entering, without treating every participant as entitled to a separate unique roll.

Preparation

Practical choice

Reason

Weapon

A suitable crush weapon; zombie axe on crush or a stronger option you can risk

Vet’ion has much lower crush defence than slash or stab defence.

Necklace

Salve amulet (e) when unlocked

The undead bonus is valuable; it does not stack with Slayer helmet bonuses.

Supporting gear

Replaceable strength/prayer equipment within a deliberate risk budget

Multicombat risk changes the value of a marginal damage upgrade.

Supplies

Food, prayer restoration, combat boost and poison protection for the exit

A mechanically clean boss fight can still leave a dangerous journey out.

Exit equipment

A level-30 teleport for after reaching an eligible level

It cannot teleport you directly from the level-35 arena.

Optional Wilderness weapon

Charged Viggora’s or ursine chainmace

Include ether and charges in the risk check, even if the weapon is protected.

Agree the route and the hellhound job

An accessible route uses a games necklace to the Corporeal Beast lair, exits into the Wilderness and heads north towards Vet’ion’s Rest. Carrallanger or Annakarl travel offers alternatives with their own access and rune requirements. Know the destination and the route before arriving with equipment.

Before entry, inspect Items Kept on Death with the complete inventory and appropriate beyond-level-20/PvP conditions. Enable PK Skull Prevention and decide which equipment you can afford to lose if Protect Item is unavailable. Do not count a fourth protected item as unconditional.

For a small team, assign who will respond to each hellhound rather than having everyone keep attacking the immune boss. Both hounds must die. A simple split by the hounds’ positions works if everyone understands it; an unassigned player should help the surviving hound.

Also agree an exit call and the general route through the Escape Caves. The destination after leaving a boss lair is random within the cave system. Memorising only one nearby surface entrance does not prepare you for every exit position.

Lightning: move outside the full footprint

Vet’ion places lightning strikes around the arena, including at or near players. Each strike damages a 3×3 area. Look at the marked tile and the surrounding footprint, then move onto genuinely clear floor. A one-tile move beside the centre can still leave you in the attack.

The sword-swing animation accompanying lightning is not an ordinary melee hit. Protect from Melee does not stop the lightning. Keep the prayer for its actual purpose against hellhounds, while using movement against the boss’s floor attacks.

In a team, another player’s marked area can overlap your escape. Leave spacing and avoid all running to the same supposedly safe corner. Maintain enough room to choose a different direction if the next tile is also marked.

Resume crush attacks from clear ground. If a cast or a pathing click pulls you into a fresh strike, correct the position before chasing damage. Avoidable floor damage is a better first improvement target than buying a small armour upgrade.

Checkpoint

Action

Why

Shield raised and shadows appear

Move out of the indicated area beside or beneath Vet’ion.

A bash can damage you and temporarily prevent attacks.

First pair of hellhounds

Use Protect from Melee and kill both before returning to the boss.

They make Vet’ion immune while alive.

Normal form reaches zero

Avoid transition lightning and prepare for the faster enraged form.

This is the midpoint, not the end of the kill.

Second pair of hellhounds

Repeat the assigned hound jobs and maintain floor awareness.

The second form has its own immunity phase.

A player threat or exit call

Prioritise survival and the route out.

A level-30 teleport is not usable directly in this arena.

Shield bash and two complete forms

When the shield rises, use the shadows to judge the threatened area. It can cover positions beside and underneath the boss. Stepping under is not a universal dodge; a position that avoids transition lightning may be unsafe for a bash.

A bash also causes a short period during which you cannot attack. If your character stops responding after a hit, recover health and position instead of repeatedly clicking the boss in place. Watch the next floor cue while the effect ends.

Around half health in the normal form, two skeletal hellhounds appear. They attack with melee and make Vet’ion immune. He also has strong temporary damage resistance around the summon point, so do not plan to bypass the hounds by forcing a large hit through the threshold.

The first form reaching zero triggers orange transition lightning and a full new health bar. The enraged form is faster and restores earlier Defence drains. Repeat the dodge routine and kill its own hellhound pair before finishing. A long delay can cause reversion after five minutes; do not treat the middle of the kill as a banking checkpoint.

Map of the Escape Caves connecting the three larger Wilderness boss lairs and surface exits

Leaving the arena is only the start of the exit

Using the boss-lair exit leads into the multicombat Escape Caves. Logging out inside the arena instead places you above ground outside the Escape Caves when you return; it does not take you to a bank or remove Wilderness risk. Players using the same lair exit close together can arrive at the same cave point, allowing pursuit.

Read the cave map before travelling. Move towards an appropriate surface exit and then a Wilderness level at which your teleport functions. The southern route reaches lower Wilderness sooner, but choosing an exit must account for the actual players and hazards present.

The caves contain aggressive bears and poison spiders. Bring sufficient food, run energy and poison protection, and keep moving. Lingering can add prayer and run-energy drain. An empty inventory after the boss is not a comfortable escape setup.

Tele Block can stop teleportation after you reach a normally eligible level. Keep a movement plan as well as a teleport item. Avoid a deliberate-death banking routine: PvP damage, loot and untradeables can change the consequences substantially.

Loot and the next useful improvement

Vet’ion shares collection goals with Calvar’ion, including the Voidwaker blade, ring of the gods and pet. Group loot depends on contribution, and a unique is not an independent roll for every player. Higher listed reward rates do not guarantee better practical returns after interruptions and replacement costs.

Bank a valuable drop and refill before extending the trip. If the group loses time, identify whether the cause was unassigned hounds, overlapping lightning, bash hits or an unfamiliar exit. Fix the shared routine before asking every player to bring more valuable gear.

Hardcore accounts should treat the fight and Wilderness journey as unsafe. A mechanically damage-free kill does not make the whole activity safe, and an extra teammate cannot guarantee protection from other teams.

Choose the next account upgrade

Use the OSRS PvM progression guide to connect this encounter to your next unlock. Improve the repeated mechanical error first, then choose equipment that solves a specific damage, range or sustain problem.
