For a first Spindel kill, use a crush weapon, remove spiderlings promptly and place the sticky web away from the floor you need next. Standing beside the boss simplifies normal prayer, but her movement can change that distance. This guide covers a solo learner trip in the Web Chasm and the checks needed for a real escape.
Current access and the level-29 location
Spindel is in the Web Chasm, in the ruins north of the Graveyard of Shadows at level 29 Wilderness. You need the hard Wilderness Diary or a Venenatis boss Slayer task to enter. A regular spider task does not bypass the diary requirement.
The lair is singles-plus. A player can attack you while you are fighting Spindel; the boss does not prevent interruption. Carry a setup you accept losing, check Items Kept on Death beyond level 20 and enable PK Skull Prevention.
If entering without the hard diary through the boss-task exception, a player entering the lair causes a three-tick teleport delay. The hard diary removes that particular delay, but not Tele Block. A level-30 teleport is useful here; an ordinary level-20 teleport is not.
Travel from Ferox Enclave towards the graveyard and then north to the ruins, or use Carrallanger/Graveyard of Shadows travel and head north. The shared boss-lair entry fee can come from the bank. Confirm your supplies and teleport before entering, rather than testing them after a player arrives.
Bank item | Practical plan | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
Boss weapon | A suitable crush weapon, such as a zombie axe on crush or a stronger alternative | Spindel has low crush defence. |
Spiderling tool | Darts, knives or another fast single-target option | Remove the adds without wasting several slow attacks. |
Prayers | Protect from Melee nearby; Missiles or Magic when separated according to the attack cycle | Your position determines which normal attack threatens you. |
Recovery | Food, prayer restoration, melee boost and run-energy support | Webs and adds can consume resources needed for escape. |
Teleport | A usable charged level-30 teleport or unlocked royal seed pod | Check its actual charges and unlocks. |
Risk budget | Replaceable supporting gear and limited charges | A Wilderness weapon’s ether adds risk independently of its protected status. |
Set up a simple main weapon and add switch
Crush melee is a straightforward starting route. Select the actual crush attack style after equipping your weapon. Bring enough damage to sustain the fight, but do not fill every slot with expensive swaps.
A charged Viggora’s or ursine chainmace can improve damage at the cost of ether use and risk. It is not an entry requirement. Start with the risk screen and your replacement budget rather than an isolated best-in-slot list.
Spiderlings have only five health and take maximum hits. A fast ranged tool makes individual cleanup convenient. Equip it, target each add, then return to the main weapon and correct attack style. Check the ammunition as well as the weapon.
Area damage can clear several adds, but it introduces extra equipment or spellbook choices. Keep PK Skull Prevention enabled if using chinchompas or multi-target spells. For a learner, a reliable single-target cleanup is enough; no named plugin is required to understand the mechanic.
Normal attacks: close range is different from the cycle
Spindel cycles through eight ranged attacks and eight magic attacks, repositioning every four. While you are adjacent, her normal attack against you is melee instead. Protect from Melee is therefore the simple default for a crush-melee setup that keeps contact.
When she moves away, you may temporarily be outside melee reach. Match protection to the current ranged or magic part of the cycle while closing distance, rather than assuming your melee overhead covers every tile in the room. Green spit is the ranged attack; the ordinary web projectile is Magic.
The ordinary Magic projectile and the sticky floor web are different mechanics. Protection against Magic does not make standing in the floor web harmless. Read the floor and your distance separately from the overhead.
Track the boss’s moves as well as attack animations. When melee replaces the visible ranged/magic attacks, the underlying sequence still matters for predicting the spiderling and sticky-web events. Learn the sequence without allowing counting to replace reacting to the actual cue.
Cue | Action | Reason |
|---|---|---|
Spiderlings appear at the start of the ranged sequence | Switch and kill them promptly, then return to crush. | They drain prayer and strengthen Spindel, including damage through protection. |
Third attack of the magic sequence approaches | Prepare a web placement towards an edge with room to leave. | A controlled placement preserves the middle of your route. |
White-blue sticky web lands | Move completely off the expanded floor area. | The web drains health, prayer and run energy repeatedly. |
Boss moves out of melee reach | Use the appropriate distant protection until adjacent again. | Protect from Melee does not cover ranged or magic attacks. |
Player enters or supplies become low | Use the viable escape promptly. | Singles-plus allows a player to interrupt the boss fight. |
Spiderlings: small health, large consequences
Kill spiderlings soon after they spawn. Their hits drain prayer even when the hit deals no damage or is protected. They also increase Spindel’s damage and reduce the effectiveness of your protection; leaving them alive undermines the clean melee routine.
Do not assume an active overhead means every point of damage is an unavoidable boss hit. Check for surviving spiderlings before changing the entire gear setup. A single overlooked add can keep draining prayer while you focus on the main health bar.
Use your fast switch deliberately. Avoid walking into the boss or a web because you clicked through an add’s model. Once the adds are dead, verify that you have re-equipped the crush weapon rather than continuing to attack the boss with darts.
Prayer restoration remains necessary. Fast cleanup reduces the problem but cannot guarantee a perfectly timed supply drop or cover damage from player attackers.
Place the sticky web and keep an exit lane
Spindel deploys the sticky web on the third magic attack of the sequence. It expands over a substantial floor area, roughly seven by five tiles. Prepare to place it near an edge, then move away onto clean ground without cutting through it again.
Standing inside causes repeated damage, prayer drain and heavy run-energy loss. Losing run energy is particularly costly if you need to escape a player immediately afterwards. Leave the web first, then eat or restore from a clear tile.
Aranea boots negate only the initial tick of web damage; they do not let you stand in the web safely. Do not add their value to the trip on the assumption that they remove the mechanic.
As Spindel moves, check whether following her would pull you across the old web. Change your approach path when necessary. A missed attack while preserving the exit lane costs less than several web ticks and an exhausted run bar.
End the trip with supplies still available
A kill counts towards the corresponding Venenatis boss alternatives, but Spindel has its own lower reward quantities and rates. Voidwaker gem, fangs and pet goals remain chance-based. Do not treat the next kill as guaranteed to pay for an over-risked setup.
Bank useful loot and refresh charges, food and teleport availability. If using a looting bag, remember its contents are unprotected until banked. Supply drops can extend a trip but should not be required to survive the current one.
The first repeatable improvement is usually add cleanup, web placement or prayer when separated from the boss. Once those are consistent, consider damage upgrades. This remains an unsafe Wilderness activity for Hardcore accounts, regardless of how little boss damage a clean attempt takes.
Choose the next account upgrade
Use the OSRS PvM progression guide to connect this encounter to your next unlock. Improve the repeated mechanical error first, then choose equipment that solves a specific damage, range or sustain problem.
