Phosani’s Nightmare is a precise solo encounter: correctly pray every ordinary attack, dodge repeated claw portals, use crush against husks and weakened parasites, then finish the final 150-health desperation phase without losing movement. Food gives room to recover from mistakes; it cannot replace these mechanics.
The current fight has three shield-and-totem phases followed by the desperation ending. Older guides showing four shield phases predate the removal of the original first phase. This article explains the current learner sequence and keeps corner-rifting and specialised area weapons optional.
Reach the Pool of Nightmares with a full setup
Enter Morytania after Priest in Peril and reach the Sisterhood Sanctuary beneath Slepe. Use a working route such as Drakan’s medallion to Ver Sinhaza and the run north, or the direct Slepe teleport after its tablet unlock. Sip stamina before a long approach if needed.
Drink from the Pool of Nightmares north of the normal arena. This is a solo instance, so you do not need to search for a vacant group room. A normal Nightmare completion is recommended experience, but it is not a mandatory kill-count gate; the entry warning can be acknowledged.
Bring reliable crush melee damage, magic for totems, a fast sleepwalker weapon, food, Prayer restoration, boosts, an emergency teleport and Sanfew serum or Relicym’s balm. Check runes, staff charges and the actual crush attack setting before entering.
Prepare the husk and parasite weapon roles explicitly. A fast crush weapon can clear husks efficiently; a slower high-max-hit crush weapon can finish a weakened parasite. Avoid adding an expensive switch unless you know which specific add it is intended to solve.
System | Normal Nightmare | Phosani’s Nightmare |
|---|---|---|
Group format | Team encounter with minimum group scaling | Solo instance |
Ordinary prayers | Reduce incoming damage | Correct prayer fully blocks ordinary attacks |
Shield sequence | Three larger team shields and totems | Three 400-point shields and totems, then 150-health ending |
Specials | Phase-specific group sequence | Alternating special sets with random elements |
Late prayer behaviour | Ordinary activation | Third phase can disable a pre-active correct overhead |
Death recovery | Shura | Sister Senga; death returns you by the pool |
Learn the attack animations before adding damage tricks
Ranged uses the contortion and clicking sound; Magic uses the sideward motion and pink petals; Melee uses the charged claw scrape. Protect correctly within the brief animation window. Unlike the normal fight, correct protection fully blocks these ordinary hits.
Mistakes are correspondingly severe: magic and ranged can hit up to 80. Keep enough health for a missed cue, and do not try to preserve food by remaining one mistake from death. Restore supplies during a controlled window rather than panic through the next portal sequence.
Move off black portals as soon as the pattern is readable, then fit in your next attack. The portals are clustered around you and can repeat several times. One successful dodge does not mean the whole special is over.
A corner-rift method uses exact positions under the boss’s corners and timed exits. It is an optimisation after ordinary portal reading is stable. Standing underneath her anywhere and hoping the next portal misses is not the same technique.
Shield and totem cycles: keep the defensive jobs running
Break the current shield with your melee setup, then charge all four totems with magic. Magic counts double towards their charge, so a charged staff is a useful basic switch. The regular attacks and current specials continue during the totems.
Phosani alternates sets containing husks with spores, or parasites with flowers, alongside Curse or Surge. You cannot assume every special belongs to the same numbered phase as normal Nightmare. Identify the active set and respond to what actually appears.
After the totem blast, kill the sleepwalkers before the transition damage. There are two after the first current phase, three after the second and four after the third. Use a fast weapon and a position that can reach the spawn lanes without running into a bad angle.
Attacks on these sleepwalkers always land as maximum hits, so bring a weapon whose max hit is sufficient for their ten health. Killing every walker limits the transition blast to its small minimum. Letting all reach her causes lethal damage; high health is not a substitute for doing the mechanic.
Husks and parasites: use the crush interaction correctly
Any weapon on its crush setting lands maximum hits on husks. Kill them promptly to regain movement, while continuing to pray against the boss and surviving husk. A quick weapon can be preferable to a slow oversized hit on these smaller targets.
Drink Sanfew serum or Relicym’s balm before a parasite emerges. This reduces the burst and weakens the add; crush attacks then gain the guaranteed-max-hit interaction against it. An untreated parasite is a different and much more dangerous target.
Check whether the actual boosted Strength, gear and weapon max can kill the weakened parasite in one hit. A screenshot of somebody else’s weapon does not prove your lower-Strength setup reaches the same threshold. If it survives, finish it promptly rather than assume the game ignored the crush setting.
Specialised weapons such as Hallowfell can handle multiple adds with positioning, but their area can miss a badly placed spawn. Keep a conventional target-by-target plan unless you have practised the relevant area positioning.
Flowers, spores and surge: choose the next safe destination
For flowers, move into the quadrant bordered by white flowers. Red-berry sections damage you, heal the boss and turn your own attacks into healing. Do not continue a damage rotation from a wrong quadrant while searching for the next weapon.
For spores, leave a one-tile margin around the visible objects. A triggered spore disables run, substantially slows attacks and adds Prayer drain. Portals continue during the spore pattern, so select a usable nearby escape tile before the next set forms.
If the boss is badly positioned and the hazards leave no practical attack space, move to open ground and let her follow when possible. Do not force an advanced under-boss position through a portal merely to preserve uptime.
For Surge, read her edge position and leave the lane across the room immediately. Resume damage once the charge passes. A cast or special attack that prevents the move is not worth taking a very large hit.
Protection needed while cursed | Button to activate |
|---|---|
Magic | Melee button |
Missiles | Magic button |
Melee | Missiles button |
Curse expires | Use the ordinary matching button again |
Third phase: reactivate the correct protection
In the third shield phase, Phosani can disable an already-active correct protection as her attack animation starts. Watch the animation and activate the required overhead in the response window, rather than assume camping the right icon keeps it working.
The curse still changes the button mapping when active. Check the actual overhead and adapt when it ends. A prayer click that worked one attack earlier can select the wrong protection after the curse clears.
Husks add closely spaced attacks during this phase. Prioritise the imminent boss protection and clear the adds quickly. Do not silently replace a practised husk order with one copied from another phase where the attack timing differed.
Before completing the final totem, restore health, Prayer and melee boosts. Prepare the fast ranged weapon for four sleepwalkers, then the melee weapon for the ending. Entering the final section with empty Prayer turns a manageable response into an unnecessary emergency.
Desperation: finish 150 health while dodging
After the third blast, Phosani survives with 150 health and moves to the centre. Repeated Grasping Claws continue while more sleepwalkers spawn from the edges. These ending walkers cause smaller individual damage instead of the previous phase-ending lethal blast.
Focus on finishing the boss while continuing to dodge portals. Use available damage specials when the destination is clear, then resume ordinary attacks and movement. Do not abandon the boss to chase every ending walker around the room indefinitely.
Keep health high enough for walker damage and avoid turning one missed portal into a second by standing still. Redemption is an optional recovery tool but consumes Prayer when it activates; it is not an automatic extra life with no follow-up.
A first completion can be untidy. The useful improvement is to enter this phase with more supplies and a clear attack-and-move sequence, rather than depend on a lucky final hit after every resource has run out.
Death recovery and a realistic learning checkpoint
Death now returns you outside by the Pool of Nightmares. Sister Senga retrieves stored equipment for 60,000 coins. A further unsafe death before reclaiming can delete it, and this fight still removes Hardcore status on death despite the convenient respawn location.
Review the earliest repeated error: a cursed button, missed treatment, late portal movement or lost sleepwalker. Fix that cause before adding more switches. Consistent shield phases and a healthy desperation entry are stronger progress measures than chasing a timer from a very different setup.
Choose the next account upgrade
Use the OSRS PvM progression guide to connect this encounter to your next unlock. Improve the repeated mechanical error first, then choose equipment that solves a specific damage, range or sustain problem.
