The normal Nightmare is a team fight built around three cycles: break her shield with melee, switch to magic to charge all four corner totems, then stop the sleepwalkers before the next phase. Keep the correct protection prayer active and move off black claw portals throughout those jobs.
This guide teaches the ordinary group encounter beneath Slepe. Phosani’s Nightmare is a different solo fight with different shield values, prayer behaviour and special combinations. Do not mix a Phosani solo script into a normal team attempt.
Access Slepe and organise a team
Complete Priest in Peril to access Morytania, travel to Slepe and enter the Sisterhood Sanctuary. A Drakan’s medallion from A Taste of Hope provides a practical approach via Ver Sinhaza. The direct Slepe teleport requires a Slepey tablet unlock; owning the medallion alone does not provide it.
Decide the tank and assign sections for sleepwalkers before starting. The boss chooses its main target using defence rolls, so the intended tank needs appropriate defensive gear relative to the rest of the group. Standing near the person somebody called “tank” does not force the boss to face that way.
Take crush melee damage, a usable magic switch for totems and a fast weapon for sleepwalkers. Add combat boosts, food, Prayer restoration, runes/charges and an emergency teleport. Pack Sanfew serum or Relicym’s balm for parasites; ordinary antipoison is not the same treatment.
Ironmen can receive drops alongside ordinary accounts, while Group Ironmen can lose prestige when completing an encounter started with someone outside their group. Death is unsafe for Hardcore accounts. Know the account’s restrictions before accepting a team invitation.
Choose sustain and damage that fit the role
Most of the active damage time is spent breaking shields, so a functional crush setup is useful before buying several marginal magic switches. A bludgeon, suitable crush weapon or stronger option can work according to the account and team expectations. The Nightmare is not undead, so a Salve amulet is not a hidden damage upgrade.
Magic deals double damage to totems. Bring a charged powered staff or an appropriate cast setup, with sufficient inventory space to use it reliably. Blood spells do not leech health from the totems; do not budget healing around that assumption.
Normal Nightmare still deals chip damage through correct protection prayers, so some healing and sustain are needed even in a well-played kill. A blood fury or Sanguinesti staff can help but adds cost; neither replaces food and Prayer restoration while learning.
The normal encounter has a minimum scaling equivalent to five players. A duo does not receive a proportionately smaller shield than a five-person team, which is why a low-damage tiny team can turn a learner attempt into a very long supply test.
Once the team is ready, disturb the sleeping Nightmare to begin. If she is already floating above a glowing phase symbol, a fight is in progress and cannot be joined midway. Wait for it to finish or find another available world rather than assume the team can enter during the totems.
Visible cue | Protection or movement |
|---|---|
Body contorts with a clicking sound | Protect from Missiles |
Pink petals and a sideward flail | Protect from Magic |
Claws charge for the forward slash | Protect from Melee or leave the facing area |
Black portals form | Move to a tile without a portal |
White flowers versus red berries | Stand in the quadrant bordered by white flowers |
Sleepwalkers approach | Land a damaging hit on every assigned walker |
Watch the facing direction as well as the overhead
The tank faces the melee threat. Other players should stay away from the front and from underneath the boss, including the diagonally forward area, so they are not unnecessarily included in the slash. Recheck the facing direction after moving for a special.
Match the ranged and magic animations quickly. These attacks give a brief response window, but correct protection reduces damage rather than making the normal fight damage-free. Keep health ready for chip damage plus a mistake.
When black portals appear, select a clear destination before returning to attacks. A portal can be under the boss as well as nearby. Standing underneath her because it looked safe during another animation can expose you to both claw damage and melee.
The totem stage does not pause her regular attacks or phase specials. Continue praying and moving while charging, and avoid tunnel vision on the last totem’s health bar.
Phase one: husks, flowers and the first totems
Husks immobilise a targeted player until the pair is killed. Help remove them promptly, especially when their timing could overlap the totem completion and sleepwalker transition. Do not leave a teammate frozen merely because the husks are not attacking you.
Corpse Flowers divides the room into quadrants. Find the area bordered on both sides by white flowers and move there. Red-berry areas rapidly damage you, heal the boss and turn attacks from the wrong area into more healing.
Once the shield breaks, stop hitting the Nightmare and charge all four totems with magic. Assign a direction or communicate unfinished corners instead of have everybody independently run to the same nearest totem.
When the final totem finishes, the blast damages her physical health and the next phase begins. Be ready to switch from the staff to the sleepwalker weapon. If husks spawned just before the blast, resolve them or use a ranged-reaching attack on the assigned walkers rather than let the whole transition go unmanaged.
Sleepwalkers: make the team’s coverage explicit
At the transitions into phases two and three, sleepwalkers move towards the Nightmare. They die to a successful damaging hit, so use a fast weapon and cover your assigned section rather than spend a slow high-damage attack on the same walker as a teammate.
Any walkers she absorbs increase the following room-wide blast. Do not assume the tank can eat the consequence for everyone. Every player takes the transition damage, making a missed side of the room a group problem.
Look around after your final assigned target dies. Help with a surviving walker if time and range permit, without double-clicking a corpse while another reaches the boss. Restore health and Prayer before the blast if the previous section left you low.
The transition is a separate completion check from the totems. Fully charging four corners is not enough if the group then ignores the spawned adds.
Phase two: treat parasites and read the cursed prayers
When infected by a parasite, drink Sanfew serum or Relicym’s balm before it emerges. The treatment reduces the damage and weakens the spawned parasite. Kill it promptly, as it can heal the shield or interfere with totem progress.
The curse changes which overhead button activates which protection. Read the mapping and check the symbol actually active above you; clicking the normally correct icon can produce the wrong prayer during the curse. The effect ends after five attacks, so be ready to return to the ordinary controls.
Black portals continue throughout this phase. Resolve the movement even while taking parasite treatment or changing a cursed prayer. Reducing a gear switch is often more useful than trying to manage three interfaces at once.
Break the shield, charge every totem again and prepare for the next sleepwalker wave. The boss does not need to be attacked while the totems are vulnerable; leaving someone hitting her wastes time without advancing that stage.

Phase three: leave space between spores and the surge
Spores threaten the tile around their visible model as well as the centre. Avoid stepping within one tile, particularly when selecting a clear destination away from claw portals. A spot that has no portal can still be a bad move if it triggers a spore.
A triggered spore disables run and slows attacks, making later movement more awkward. Keep a route in mind before the next portals appear instead of discover all nearby squares are blocked by hazards.
For Surge, the Nightmare teleports to an edge and charges across. Move out of the straight path before she crosses. Do not continue standing in the lane to cast on a totem or finish a slow special attack.
Complete the third shield and charge all four totems a final time. The last totem blast finishes the normal encounter. Continue responding to active floor hazards until the fight is actually resolved and the loot is available.
Recover safely and improve the first recurring error
If you die, Shura retrieves the stored items for 60,000 coins. Any further unsafe death before reclaiming can delete them, so prepare a safe return rather than rush through another dangerous activity. This retrieval service does not protect Hardcore status.
If the team runs out of supplies, identify why: an unbalanced tank, missed walkers, parasites left alive, or players attacking from the wrong flower quadrant. Fixing that cause is a better next session than simply adding more expensive gear.
A useful first checkpoint is a full three-phase kill with every sleepwalker covered and no flower healing. From there, improve totem assignments, sustain and damage windows one job at a time. Potential Inquisitor and Nightmare staff rewards are goals, not guaranteed outcomes from a short session.
Choose the next account upgrade
Use the OSRS PvM progression guide to connect this encounter to your next unlock. Improve the repeated mechanical error first, then choose equipment that solves a specific damage, range or sustain problem.
