For a learner team at Maiden, assign the freezes before crossing the barrier. Keep Protect from Magic active, control the red Nylocas at 70%, 50% and 30% health, and move off blood instead of trying to heal through it. A missed target is a team problem to call immediately, not a reason to keep attacking the boss silently.

This OSRS Maiden guide covers Normal Theatre of Blood, with a common two-freezer arrangement for four- or five-player teams. It explains the spawn names, target priorities and recovery decisions. Entry Mode and advanced stacking or threshold skips need different expectations.

What makes Maiden dangerous?

Maiden attacks with Magic, and Protect from Magic halves her standard attack rather than removing all damage. The target selection considers proximity and team order, so positioning affects who receives pressure. Follow the host’s starting positions instead of crowding the boss randomly.

Her standard attack can drain combat stats. Check your current levels and repair a drained offensive stat before assuming the weapon has suddenly become ineffective. This is particularly relevant to freezers, who should preserve their casting setup and avoid unnecessary proximity while waiting for the next spawn.

Red Nylocas that reach Maiden heal her based on their remaining health and increase the damage pressure of her attacks. Blood on the floor also damages players, drains Prayer and heals her when stood on. A team can therefore make the encounter progressively harder by ignoring both the adds and its own movement.

Job

Bring or confirm

First responsibility

North freezer

Ancient Magicks, Ice Barrage and an accurate casting switch

Assigned northern singles and the agreed later clump

South freezer

The same casting requirements, plus an agreed backup call

Assigned southern targets and help if the other freezer is late

Damage players

Suitable boss and add-clearing weapons

Called defence-reduction specials, then boss damage and escaped or isolated adds

Whole team

Health, Prayer, boosts and usable inventory space

Avoid blood, maintain positions and announce mistakes

Ice Barrage requires 94 Magic and the correct spellbook and runes. The requirement belongs to the freezing job; not every damage player needs the same book. Check the complete equipment switch, including any pieces with negative Magic accuracy. Holding a casting weapon while leaving the wrong armour on is not a completed switch.

Leave enough room to swap a two-handed weapon and remove an unsuitable equipment piece when necessary. Confirm the rune pouch and selected spell before entering. A freezer discovering missing runes at the first threshold gives the rest of the group very little recovery time.

For boss damage, the practical weapon depends on the setup. A toxic blowpipe is an option when a scythe is unavailable; ammunition quality and charges matter. Freezers normally use Ranged from a suitable distance between their jobs so they can respond to spawns without travelling back from melee range.

Read the spawn names before the threshold

Maiden Nylocas spawn positions labelled N1 to N4 on the north and S1 to S4 on the south

N means north and S means south. The number increases as the potential spawn is farther from Maiden. N4 and S4 each have two possible positions, which is why the picture contains more marked squares than the four names on each side. The actual targets present depend on the raid’s scale and spawns; do not assume every marker contains a Nylocas.

Use the room’s compass and landmarks to orient the picture. The labels describe potential spawn locations, not a set of safe standing tiles. Agree where each freezer stands and which single the damage players help kill. A target name is useful only when everyone understands the same position.

N1, N2 and S1 are separate early targets in the standard arrangement. Later targets can be gathered into a clump so area damage reaches several at once. Freezing a later target too early can prevent that intended grouping, while freezing it too late lets it reach the boss. This is why the team needs one shared sequence.

Start with the agreed defence-reduction plan

Use the host’s assigned specials before switching to ordinary damage. Percentage defence reduction and Bandos godsword damage are normally coordinated in an order; firing an uncalled special at the wrong moment can waste part of the plan. Say whether the assigned attack landed so teammates can use the appropriate backup.

Do not turn the opening into an equipment-buying checklist for every player. The group needs the required functions covered, but a learner does not have to own every defence-reducing weapon. Confirm coverage at the bank rather than discovering an assumption after entry.

Before the boss reaches the next threshold, freezers should be in their casting positions with the correct gear ready. Watch her health as well as your own attack animation. Chasing one additional shot can delay the freeze that was your main job.

A common two-freezer sequence

In the standard learner arrangement, the north freezer handles N1 first, then N2, then the assigned group of 3s and 4s. The south freezer handles S1, then the S2 contribution to the clump. The exact standing tiles and cast timing should match the host’s demonstrated plan.

When S1 is frozen at the earliest possible moment, the common clumping sequence needs an extra tick of waiting before the south freezer’s S2 cast. That delay is part of a timed sequence, not a rule to wait regardless of what happened. If the start was late, announce it and follow the recovery call instead of blindly preserving the original count.

After freezing, confirm that the target has stopped moving. Keep checking the actual Nylocas rather than treating the cast animation as proof that the job succeeded. A splash or missed target should be called immediately with its name.

The south freezer should be ready to help with later targets if the north freezer is late, but the backup must be communicated. Two players assuming that the other is handling a target can be worse than one player openly asking for help.

For a first team session, use the host’s simple, repeatable version. Optimisations that change which target receives the area cast are later refinements. Practise the intended clump before copying a faster variant that depends on another player’s exact timing.

Damage players: finish the adds that matter

Once the targets are frozen, follow the called add-clearing plan. Damage players help remove isolated Nylocas while freezers damage the clump, then return to Maiden when the dangerous targets are dealt with. Do not continue attacking the boss through a missed freeze simply because the boss’s health is close to the next threshold.

If a Nylocas is already moving toward her, damaging it before it arrives reduces the healing it can provide. That is a useful fallback when a perfect freeze is no longer possible. State which target you are covering so another player does not leave a different escape unattended.

The 70%, 50% and 30% sets should each have the same clear handover: prepare, freeze, confirm, clear, resume. Wait for the team’s call if a threshold could be pushed while players are still fixing the previous wave.

Manage blood without trapping the team

When a blood splat targets your tile, move clear and keep the next usable area in mind. Range positioning gives more time to see some incoming attacks; melee players need to respect the earlier movement timing. Avoid walking onto an existing pool just to reach a familiar marked tile.

Moving blood spawns leave trails. Deal with them according to the team plan while preserving space for the next freeze and target switch. Do not drag floor hazards through the casting area or keep standing in blood while opening the inventory to heal.

Problem you see

Immediate response

A called Nylocas keeps moving

Call its name, attempt the agreed backup and have damage players reduce its remaining health

Blood covers your position

Move to a clear area, restore Prayer if needed and re-establish the job

A freezer has drained stats or the wrong gear

Announce the delay and repair the setup before the next threshold

Several targets leak and supplies collapse

Follow the leader’s stabilise or exit call; do not independently force the next threshold

Why learners should not improvise the 30% skip

A coordinated team can freeze the final set and kill Maiden before those targets reach her, rather than spending time clearing them. That requires enough damage and consistent freezes. It is a different plan from the ordinary clear-all-adds learner sequence.

Agree the skip before the threshold. If targets leak, the right recovery may be to kill them rather than continue a failed damage race. Stacking the 70% and 50% sets is another advanced plan; do not leave the first set alive unless the group deliberately chose it.

After the room and after a failed attempt

On a successful kill, the normal raid restores health, Prayer, run and special energy, but drained combat stats still need attention. Reorganise the inventory and confirm the next room’s supplies. Do not assume finishing Maiden repaired every potion or equipment mistake.

Normal Theatre deaths are unsafe for Hardcore status. If teammates clear the room, a dead player can rejoin them afterward; a complete team wipe ends the attempt and creates the normal item-retrieval process. Ordinary teleports are blocked, so understand the escape-crystal plan before entering. Recover stored items before risking another dangerous death elsewhere.

Review the first missed job: an early threshold, a late cast, wrong equipment, a forgotten target or unnecessary blood damage. Fix that cause with the team before changing every role. The OSRS PvM progression guide helps when the missing piece is still an account unlock; once the setup is ready, repeatable communication is the next improvement.
